Anyone know if Sulimay's is still open on Girard Ave? I have been meaning to check this place out after seeing a few of the youtube video's filmed here....and it is right around the corner from my house. I was going to go for breakfast, but it looks dark inside, and I haven't seen any lights on when I drive by.

I've only been to Ida Mae's one but enjoyed it very much. Never been to Sulimays because I could have sworn someone posted on here a long time ago that they had closed.

Sulimays has always been a
Sulimays has always been a great little diner. Relaxed and unpretentius with good food. Agree with Coder: great pancakes, my daughter loves them too. I always though it was the best of the 'diners' in the area if you know what I mean.
Ms Sulimay used to do all the cooking but she became ill. I think at one point she was going to sell but her health improved so she just scaled back her hours and hired the new chef. I havent been there in awhile but I heard it is even better now.

I've been to Sulimay's once and wasn't impressed. Ida Mae's breakfast burrito and full Irish are the bomb. But yeah, service is spotty at best there.

Sulimay's is okay, I've been there a few times. Ida Mae's is alright too. My favorite for breakfast is Acropolis at Frankford & Girard. If I don't feel like walking I go to either Sulimay's or Ida Mae's. Ida Mae's is a bit cramped for my crew.

For plain old diner breakfast
For plain old diner breakfast, whether it be cream chipped beef, or just sausage and home fries...Acropolis is the place to beat. Great for little guys, they'll split plates and put the drinks in coffee cups with lids so they don't get spilled. Love it there. Gus is great. And honestly, they have one of the best burgers in the area. You go in there for lunch, get a burger and a cup of soup, and your stuffed for the rest of the day.
Sometimes, nothing beats a good ole Greek diner.

Wasn't it called "Girard Diner" when Angelo owned it? I love Lucretia and her staff. The one thing I do miss is staying up all night and hitting Girard at 5 AM. But you're right, YJB, that place has always been awesome with both owners.

Sulimays has great food and wonderful service...since they revamped the menu, it is even better. It's definitely our choice for breakfast in the neighborhood.

Meh. Nobody beats Sherry's
Meh. Nobody beats Sherry's breakfast price. $3.50
Yeah it's deep in the Ken-Zin-Tin and your view out the window is the 7-11 and the occasional junkie shuffling up the street but if you hate yuppiedom and all you need is an omelet in your stomach, that's the place to go.
And I don't imagine that they'll be having free WiFi and biscotti anytime soon.

And yes, the Breakfast at Sullimay's videos were hilarious. They deemed the Walkmen unlistenable (my favorite album that year) and forecasted that Animal Collective wouldn't make it far from Baltimore, Maryland (one of the more iconic bands to come from the oughts, at least one lives in Spain now or something).
We've only gone a few times since they redid the menu, but the Vietnamese coffee rules. Coder, if you think Starbucks gives you palpitations, this might cause a full on cardiac episode. Fun!
Very good food and nice service. Never a wait. Not too pricey.

The new menu has revived this place. Pancakes are still tops, and it's nice to see Czerw's kielbasa make its way into some of the brunch specials.
I used to go to the Acropolis
I used to go to the Acropolis at Frankford and Girard and get scrapple and eggs for 4.95 now all the prices have jumped two dollars. Is the food two dollars better? Or is it now known as a Gastropub?

There's nothing on their Facebook page about closing. I think they have a lighted sign on when they are open.

I've lived in Fishtown for 30
I've lived in Fishtown for 30 years. I've been to Sulimay's restaurant once. I reckon Sulimay's Barber shop has better food. It was better as a greasy spoon years and years ago. There was nothing on my plate that I could not have cooked better at home. So basically, it is good if you don't like doing dishes.
You can steer a car with your feet, but that does not make it a good idea.

We used to hit Sulimays every
We used to hit Sulimays every weekend for brunch super nice staff, inexpensive grub, gossip, fun , little kids getting lollipops - i miss it alot but our schedule doesn't allow for it and I don't think they have any vegan food =(

Sulimays has good pancakes, and a very laid back feel that I like. I've been going there since my daugher was two, (before it was Sulimay's), and always enjoyed it.

Once in 30 years doesnt sound like a very well rounded opinion. Why dont you give it another look?
It's been there for about ten years I guess. I think I went 4 years ago. A lot of friends and family members have gone and were underwhelmed as well. I've never had anyone call me up or knock on my door and say, "Hey, we're going to Sulimay's for breakfast. Are you in?"
With so many great breakfast places in Fishtown, Port Richmond and Northern Liberties, I've never seen the need to go Sulimay's for breakfast.
You can steer a car with your feet, but that does not make it a good idea.
