Traffic light at Frankford and Thompson

people drive way too fast on that little stretch because there aren't any lights between girard and palmer.

though that thompson/frankford intersection is really close to girard and i would worry about traffic backing up into the girard interaction if they werent timed well (and with shackamaxon also entering that intersection the timing would have to be tougher.

maybe just some speed bumps, crosswalk, and flashing yellows alerting drivers that the pedestrians have right of way at that intersection would be enough?

I am sooooo excited to see a traffic light at this intersection.

I am in favor of many speed bumps all down Frankford and York. Should also curb idiot ATV riders.

we know that speed bumps are just a dream because the streets department will never allow them because it interferes with plowing, but we can still dream, right?

Plowing has never been an issue on most of the streets.

Isn't frankford one of the 'main' roads that actually gets plowed, though?

a strip of brick/cobblestone at an intersection could a solution. it gives just enough differentiation from the regular pavement that drivers would notice/it would stand out as a ped crossing, and it would only minimally affect plowing (if at all?).

A traffic light at this area is in discussion right now with the streets dept. This morning I saw someone coming the wrong way down Thompson then turned right onto Frankford. Another car was swinging onto Thompson from Frankford at the same time. It was unbelievably close. Can't believe someone would risk that instead of driving around the block.

a light would be great here. or an all-way stop sign. or no parking on frankford right on the corners so the intersection isn't blind from giant trucks being parked there blocking all visibility. or closing it off completely.

having been T-Boned on this intersection and my car being totalled i am definately in favor of SOMETHING being done. as it is it is a giant hazard.

Strange how the Police will set up random check points for alchohol on Holiday weekends. yet, when they know a section of road is being used as a dragstrip they never want to put any manpower there to watch, enforce and curtail dangerous folks. Not to mention I'd wager many of them probably have other issues found once pulled over for the probable cause of speeding, unsafe for conditions or wreckless driving observed. Maybe captain Kram needs to make the area a rollcall complaint issue.

Huntington and Cumberland because of their width are favorite thorofares for ATVers.

Dunno about Fishtown but people in Flatiron are sick of it. It's dangerous to walk with earbuds on because you gotta listen for Doppler rice burner 2 stroke and 4 stroke noise.

maybe it was just my specific location, but when i was living in fishtown proper there were rarely ATVs/bikes buzzing up and down the streets. sometimes one of those comically small bikes that only go a few mph would scoot on past with a child on it, or a motorized scooter and those could be kind of loud

but now in flatiron pretty much any nice day is guaranteed to have at least one or two bikes doing wheelies down the street, and I dont even live on cumberland or huntingdon.

I would mention in your letter that this is a major pedestrian crossing for people getting on the El... not sure if a normal traffic study would see that.
