"Preoccupied with vilifying the opposition, we're unable to perceive both sides of an issue and find a way to accommodate them both, albeit imperfectly. Pursuing total victory takes precedence over problem-solving." - Joseph Burgo
What's the only thing that can make an open-carry meet & eat @ Applebees even less appetizing? Why, a visit by Philly's resident Thai sex tourism expert, that's what.
Sweet holy moses. If anything could make this situation more annoying, the thought of Stuskie out on the streets with his 'giant .45' strapped on, just scunnered me.
I will never go to an Applebees again.
But I really should thank them for that.
The gun puns are unbearable. I also hate this stat:
Quote:
According to most-recent U.S. figures, there are more annual auto deaths (34,485) than gun deaths (31,224), even though there are more guns than vehicles. The majority of gun deaths are suicides.
It coaches you to come to the conclusion that guns are safer than cars, and if anything, cars should be more controlled than guns. It glosses over two huge differences:
1- Cars, although apparently less in number than guns, have far more average use time. I personally spend about ten hours a week in my car. Inversely, I'd guess that the average gun is used, as in either carried or fired at a range, less than an hour a week on average.
2- Cars are a necessary means of getting to and from places for most people. I cannot use public transportation for my job for a list of reasons. Guns are significantly less necessary for the average modern American.
"After Applebee's, I stopped at Acme to pick up a few things. I know my rights, thanks to Mark, but I covered up the huge .45 on my belt. Sometimes reason trumps rights."
"After Applebee's, I stopped at Acme to pick up a few things. I know my rights, thanks to Mark, but I covered up the huge .45 on my belt. Sometimes reason trumps rights."
Maybe he was going to take the last packet of Milano cookies away from a suburbanite hausfrau and wanted to be sure it didn't cause a scene.
Can we have a one and only missing dog/cat thread then as well?
Considering that missing dogs and cats are actually relevant to the neighborhood (or at least to the owners who live here), I don't think that's necessary.

OK, that fair, but lets add a tag line every time they say "no tags" that says "Yes I'm a-ihole". Does that seem fair enough?

"Anyone who would trade their freedom for safety
deserves neither freedom or safety."
Fun fact: Town Watch groups in Philadelphia are sanctioned under Town Watch Integrated Services, which is coordinated by the City of Philadelphia. In order to do the patrol part of town watch, you must go through training in how to be a better witness, communication tactics, and one little item that will keep folks like Viper from ever joining a town watch here: no firearms.
Including concealed. No OC or CC when doing town watch patrols. To do so would prompt the PPD to refer the town watch to TWIS for decertification.
If you're not down with dat, then don't do the patrol part of town watch [there are MANY other facets of town watch than just patrols].
And to annoy you some more: Please visit our website for River Wards Crime Watch: rwcw.org
And be sure to turn up to the FNA Chili Cookoff! Proceeds are going to help fund RWCW.
Is it me, or does this somehow seem, oh, I dunno, strange...
"Chitwood said police believe that the man had been targeted for the robbery and that he had a permit to carry a concealed weapon and a permit issued to people who carry firearms as a part of their jobs."
Nothing that happens in Upper Darby seems the least bit strange or odd to me anymore. I'm thankful that town exists to make Philadelphia look more normal.
So one of the things I keep hearing is that Zimmerman was not arrested because it was self defense under the "Stand Your Ground" law. Basically he felt threatened by the boy who was running away from him, so he shot him in "self-defense" under Florida's SYG law.
So, if I were in Florida, and I went to an Applebee's, let's say, saw a bunch of guys with guns (maybe a few in hoodies even), and I felt threatened, would I be allowed to open fire on them?
I really wish one of the gun guys would drop in to explain it all to me.
The sheriff of that town was forced to "temporarily" resign. So it appears Z was not arrested because bad police work failed to work out the equation of idiot with gun + black unarmed dead teenager = murder.
It's good to know. However, I don't think any of our friends from the Applebee's crowd would have the courage to walk around Philly at night on a town watch.

i'm pretty sure guyferg only posts on here when he's visiting his elderly mother. he keeps trying to convince her to move to south jersey with him, but you now how old women can be. at least she let's him use her computer to keep us up to date on all the gun happenins.

You'd only have to worry if they were white.
The blatant racial injustice has my blood boiling. While Philadelphia Magazine is usually unfit to line a birdcage, they had an outstanding internet post by Michael Coard about this case. http://blogs.phillymag.com/the_philly_post/author/mcoard/
