this is totally consistent with pretty much everything pope palpatine has done since becoming the holy see (if not his entire career), and you know, like 2000 years of church teaching. It's just way out of touch with American Catholics.

Stein, we usually don't agree, but you are SPOT ON with this. Spot on.

Almost sounds as if certain MEN in Rome feel as if they are GODS, and demand they be worshiped. Meanwhile, it's a great day to be a Presbyterian where we're all equal in Gods sight..

Andrew Sullivan gave a food rundown on Real Time the other week about the disconnect between localized, American Catholic congregations and the Papal State. He also brought up the disturbing collusion between the Catholic hierarchy and Evangelics in the political scene.

The leadership of the RCC is so far removed from both it's people and any link to real Christian thought or behavior it is pathetic. Papacy won't have to worry though in another generation American nun's will be all but extinguished. Western people will continue to move away from the RCC to more relevant venues of faith. The RCC will continue to dwindle in importance to western people. Maybe this is a good thing. Angers me to see the good work of so many Nun's disrespected though.

I wish Philadelphia Diocese parishioners would grow a pair and threaten schism; and call for the rest of American Catholics to join in breaking with Rome. That would pollute the Vatican's press for years.

Certainly would wake them up.

I used to work with a nun, who could not accept any cash value as a gift, only tickets for a show, etc. . She would look out the window at lunch time and watch the priests, (one of which plead guilty to child abuse this month) smoke cigarettes regularly. I would joke and ask her if she wanted to come out and smoke but her "vow of charity" prohibited it. My brother used to help at the priest house when he was a boy, one of his jobs was the weekly unloading of the case of lobster. (In the early 70's).
I wish they would just pack up and go away. Hypocrites.

sickens my soul , if schism is the only option to saving a religion I only hope that it is swift there is to much wrong with the RCC leaders for it to ever be right !

To be ones self and unafraid, right or wrong, is more admirable than the easy cowardice of surrender to conformaty. Irving Wallace.

That would only work if the American bishops were of the same mind as American Catholics, not Rome.
