It's all amateur night. You aren't a pro until you are cracking open your 10th beer at home, alone, in the dark, having not left your barcalounger for the entire day, while watching a Law and Order marathon. Not that I would know anything about that...

That's a pretty accurate description of New Years Day 2011. Although I think it was a Doctor Who marathon.

Eve is gonna be low-key. perhaps movie marathon or catch up on a tv series and fun foods. i'm saving my hard partying for the Winter Classic. tailgating starts at 9am unless they push it back due to weather.

I've been watching that 24/7 show on HBO...makes me look forward to that also, and renewed my interest in hockey in general.

thought about doing the tailgating thing but once the game starts, then what? I'm stranded deep in south philly with no good bars (just a bunch of bro bars full of frat boys) to watch the game. I'm probably going to head to Jose Pistolas. they're going to have a bunch of great beers on tap (specifically Allagash) plus Sega Genesis NHL 94!!!!

My Jeep is stuffed with fireworks and pizza rolls. Not to brag, but I'm pretty sure I'm going to have a better time than anybody here. I'm not going to stay up too late though, because I need to go fill myself with city pride and Bud Lite with all the Mummers. I usually end up babysitting my brother so he doesn't get us killed, but this year, I'm not going to be responsible for anything because he's on antibiotics so he can only drink a regular amount of beer. I might have to get myself into the parade so I can show off my moves and leave all the bozos in my dust as I'm kissing up on all their babes.
New Year's is the best.

Two houses on our nye house crawl are south of york. Sounds about right.

We are watching the fireworks from the roof of our buildings down in Old City. Awesome spot. After that we will come home and have an 11th anniversary toast and off to bed. David will probably drag me to watch the Mummers (hate it) on NY Day. I have a hard time distinguishing between Mummers and the idiots on St Patrick's Day.

Anyone with kids...the Sugarhouse will have fireworks at 6pm. Penn Treaty is a prime viewing area if you don't want to actually sit in the parking lot of a casino.

Partying at the two street clubhouses (Mummers) is way more fun than watching more than the usual amount of public urination that normally occurs in the city (St. Pat's).

Toddler party--apps at 3, ball "drops" at 6pm, home by 8pm to get the kid to bed by 9pm. Cute idea...and much more fun than doing nothing, which was Plan A.

We are heading to Pickled Heron. I have been wanting to go -my belly supports many Fishtown area restaurants- and this seemed like a perfect excuse to try multiple dishes.

Watching "The Producers" with my eldest, smallest and Nunzio. The middle one is going to her friends house because they are more fun than we are. Betty will be going to college next year and turning 18 in April so it is my last hurrah with her. I am prying Nunzio with the good bottle of Cab that has sat atop my fridge for weeks so he will actually watch a muscial with us. I got Martinelli's for me and the girls and lots of yummy appetizers to last us to midnight. Or at least till I fall asleep which will be around 11:00. Actually I always wake up around midnight just because the mahoos blowing up M-80's in metal trashcans makes the house shake...

You going to Brenda's for sure? I still haven't decided whether to go to the closed party at Luke's or not. I haven't really felt like drinking.

I made a list today weighing what I did for NYE vs. how the subsequent year turned out. It's apparently in my best interest to stay at home. I've thrown out all the tobacco products in the house, BSR training starts tomorrow at 10am. Now I'm trying to figure out how to build an effigy of 2011 that I can burn in my grill at midnight.

I have found that I am a nasty person who nicotine calms down... I was dong good then BANG! had to deal with some personal stuff that I just could not face without smoking... try again soon. not yet though still to much drama to consider it.

I haven't had a nail since New Year's Eve either. Breaking the habits of when I want one is the hardest thing - with coffee in the morning, after a few drinks, driving on the Schuylkill, blah blah blah.

Good luck to all of us...we'll see who's standing out in the cold on Wednesday night.
