The Weight Loss Thread!

I warned you it was coming.

Well, the last two weeks haven't been the most impressive. Overall I've lost one pound. However, given the astounding number of parties, luncheons, and dinners I've been to, I'll consider that a win.

I've lost 5 lbs.! All came off this week and I'm not sure how. (Although have been making daily trips out carrying like a 20 lbs. baby carrier and she's doing this new thing called napping so I can run through the house and get stuff done.)

So I'm down 31 lbs., 27 more to go!

Hey, it's me, formerly Faith, formerly mathgirl, formerly hairartiste. I'm going to change my handle every time the site crashes I've decided.

Anyway, I had gained 3 pounds over finals, but I lost it all back. So, I'm doing good right now.

Ugh.

Whoops! Missed last week!

Well, I'm afraid that I haven't lost anymore. However, I'm still going to claim victory given we crossed Christmas and I haven't put a ton on.

Hopefully I'll have some losing to report next week.

In the meantime, here's some encouraging/discouraging news:

For anyone interested in losing weight I'd recommend the documentary Fat Head. It has been available on Hulu and Netflix streaming, although I haven't checked lately. I have struggled with my weight all my life, and this movie made a huge difference. I recommend it to everyone who is interested in losing weight and avoiding health problems.

dan

Looked at some summary for "Fat Head". Apparently a pro-Paleo piece, correct?

Paleo definitely interests me, and while I probably won't go full-on Paleo, I've been making dietary modifications that go in that direction. It combines a lot of the things that work for me.

Okay...so, I've manned (womaned?) up and joined Weight Watchers. I said I was determined to not still be wearing maternity clothing in the Spring so I have to get to it. One pound every few weeks isn't going to get 27 lbs. off anytime soon! On the positive side, I've lost the weight I gained back over Christmas. I also found one more pair of pants I fit in! Yay! I also attended a yoga class with the kid...while it was fun for the both of us, I'm not sure how "calorie burning" it really was.

Oh and the other cool bit of news to me, I get about a zillion more points on WW because I'm a nursing mother!

Thanks for reminding us, Brooke! I neglected this last Friday.
I'm down one more pound, so that makes 2 since we started the thread and 6 since I started.

Ugh...we followed up the holidays with a week-long trip to Boston where we stayed in a hotel and ate out for every meal. I was not one of those lucky ladies who lost baby weight through nursing, so here I am...still needing to take it off.

Anyway, I'm back to my regular routine and ready to do this. Since I'm sure Planet Fitness is going to be jam packed with New Years resolutioners for the next few weeks, I figured I'd finally make some use of the Wii Fit that we've had for a while but never use. Does anyone have any favorite Wii Fit, or just plain Wii, games that they use for exercise?

Oh, yeah.

And at the risk of sounding like a jerk, I find it exceedingly annoying that people wait until Jan 1 to start caring about physical fitness. The difference in the gym between the last few weeks of December and the first week of January was unreal.

zimmiezelda's picture

I've been doing Primal (a slightly more lenient Paleo) for a little over a month now. While I'm doing this more for health reasons, I'm happily surprised that for the first time in my life I'm gradually losing weight without trying. 5lbs in a month just from cutting out grains and soy for the most part.

Gold is the new silver. Must I tell you everything?

Yeah, I always felt this way too. You can spot the people that won't make it to week #2, let alone February. But now when I enter the gym and join it again, I will probably feel more like one of them. I so want to start running again and more likely, a brisk 30 minute walk will kick my butt. Hoping to find more energy though...somewhere. And I vaguely remember regularly working out to do this for me.

This is partly why I'm exercising at home for now. Waiting for the herd to thin, and I don't mean waiting for the fat people to get skinny.

Ugh.

My comment about the post New Years crowd wasn't meant to imply that everyone who is overweight is somehow lazy or doesn't care about physical fitness. Just wanted to be clear.

I didn't take it that way nor do I think any of us are talking about that. No worries.

Well, you might want to avoid PF for a while; the parking lot today was like going to the mall. So many people -- I can't imagine what it's been like between 6-8.

It pains me to use the terms paleo and primal because they are so lame, but does anyone here follow that "lifestyle"? We have done a ton of research on it and what we've found indicates that this way of eating would help resolve a number of issues for us. We are just trying to figure out logistics, budgets, etc. If anyone has any insight (unless you want to lecture me about the importance of carbs - not interested), I'd love to discuss!

I lost another pound least week, but I think I put 5 back on last night.

I've lost 2 lbs. in the past 2 weeks. 25 to go!

That's the upside. The downside is that counting points is a drag. I'm just trying to get out and walk more and eat more veggies and less bad stuff for me.

Everyone who's losing weight could you please stop? I keep finding it! My thighs look like 40 solid pounds of cottage cheese. I don't have one vein that isn't varicose. I just sit down to pee as the logistics of making that happen have become down right impossible. I think I'm wearing underwear but can't be exactly sure since my thighs have a habit of just eating them. I walk around with an I.V. in my arm for insulin delivery. It was just too many needles to do it the other way. I need to clip my toenails but I can't get to them. I walked up to my third floor last Tuesday and haven't had the energy to go back downstairs yet. I can't even weigh myself because my chubby feet cover the whole scale when I step on it. My cat doesn't even recognize me. I thought she was showing me affection by licking me but it turns out I just taste like salt and sugar. I think the flies are what help me figure that out. Long story short, things are not good.

When the king speaks, fishtown.us would be wise to listen.

I've been waiting for the New Years people to go away. What time of day is going to have the absolute least amount of people there?

I may have to retract my earlier statement that PF is quieter; attendence is spare at certain times but it's still pretty busy. It's consistantly busy between 8 and noon but maybe mid to late afternoon is a better time to go?

Lauraska's picture

Down another three lbs.

My child had the plague last week, so I didn't get back to PF, but I'm trying to be realistic and set a goal of three visits to PF by this Sunday. Baby steps...

It was. I'm glad I joined and that work is paying for it. Treadmills beat uneven concrete. Pretty girls in their workout clothes beat pregnant teens in pajama pants, and my biggest worry is remembering to wipe down the machines as opposed to dodging dog crap and used needles.

Dude, were you there Sunday early afternoon? I was on my way to "The Thrift" when I saw a guy on the treadmill, with a baseball cap on, going really slow, (compared to the chick who was bouncing up and down next to him). I immediately thought of you and started laughing in the car. Down by the Aramingo end with the back to York Street. Was it you?

Down another 1/2 lbs. So 23 1/2 lbs of baby weight to go. Only problem is in the past few days, my appetite has been insane...but my kid's milk consumption is up an insane amount as well. So I'm afraid to step on a scale but I'm hoping they go hand in hand!

5-8pm seems like the worst possible time to go. My dad says I should go at 5am like he does. I think I'll just continue the early-afternoon schedule. Gives me a chance to watch my stories.

I plan on losing a few pounds after the 17th. I get a hernia operation and will be in bed for a week and most likely on pain killers for a few days. They make me feel ill so I end up only drinking water. At least I will lose some weight, right?

After my c-section, I was on Percocets. (Sp.?) I had like no appetite. I'm pretty convinced now that the only thing holding me back from being thin is lack of a drug addiction. ;)
