Asking everyone/anyone... ALUMNI, FACULTY, STAFF, STUDENTS
Please come and help us get something started. We as a "family" community need to get together and support each other and get our school back.
The meeting is being held at St. Laurentius Church after the 5:00 Mass.

Sorry, but I believe that there will be no turning back from this decision. They don't seem to ever believe that they've made mistakes.

I heard this comment about Wildwood catholic, they were slated for closure and the residents stirred up the pot loud enough the decision was reversed.
The Archbishop said the decisions will be locked in by March. So that gives a month to make a case not to close.

We owe it to our kids to do our best to demonstrate why this decision is wrong. I believe it is wrong by every metric for closure promulgated by the Archdiocese. St. Laurentius School is a part of the fabric of Fishtown and we welcome participation in our efforts by all parents, alumni and neighbors. That is why I will do everything I can to put forth our case to reverse this decision. I invite all of my friends and neighbors to join us, even if you don't have kids at the school.

A.J. and 5kngys the two of you might be interested in this. They won't close St. Peter the Apostle just because its the home of St. John Neumann but its losing alot more money and students then St Laurentis. This link has some interesting facts along with pastor and school reports that are downloadable in pdf files: http://www.faithinthefuture.com/schools/10120211-2/

The comparision should also be based on active parisioners and St. Pete's has a more active population from looking at the numbers on pages 2 & 3 of the documents.
Saint Laurentis Saint Peter's
Current Enrollment Capacity: 68% 54%
Parish Subsidy to School (2009-10): $89,428 $36,339
Parish Surplus / Deficit (2009-10): ($99,081) ($103,419)
Looking at the numbers side by side Saint Laurentis' subsidy to the school is $53,089 MORE than St. Pete's. The deficient of St. Pete's is $4,338 more than St. Laurentis.
Also, if they closed St. Pete's would St. Laurentis be able to accommodate the students from St. Pete's; obvious answer is no. If the closing has to happen, St. Pete's school is very large and can accommodate many children.
IMO, based on the fact that there will be no schools between St. Pete's and MDG (on Cambria); I think St. Laurentis has a good chance to stay open.

We won the fight in 2006 we will win the fight now, we no longer are separated Parishes; this is for Fishtown we need to come together as a community and show the Archdiocese of Philadelphia that they will not take our only School left in our community; we will not lay down and simply fall through the cracks we are the Regional hub of our neighborhood, we do not meet the so called criteria the Blue Ribbon Commission has deemed the reasons for closure; most of us are Union workers or Union children we know how to come together and right the wrongs; we need to simply show them the facts; they speak louder then words; WE NEED AND OWE THIS TO OUR CHILDREN THEY ARE AFTER ALL OUR FUTURE! I know God will see us through I want to be 90yrs old and still look out my door and see Fishtown children walking to school in Catholic School Uniforms as someonelse said at the meeting tonight we dont need to go private or independent we as a Community can do this!
