7-11 Almost Ready To Open

Forums:

Just passed by. The counters and the machines are all loaded up inside and the parking lot refurb is done. All that's left is the sign.

It is kinda nice to see the building re-re-re-cleaned up again after it was covered in wheatpaste and stickers. I doubt that will last.

Is this the time for the running "its getting better joke?" (Sorry, I think that was a Brooke-inside joke)

In the spirit of this thread, I noticed the new Mex place across the street from Thang Long is about to open too! El Rodio. It looks very festive inside.

Of El Rodio, or 7-11? Or just Mexican food in general? Or just Mexicans - racist.

Mexican isn't a race, it's a nationality, honey.

Mestizo, however, is.

You guys would love where I grew up... aka "practically Mexico." Only down there would you find a white kid with freckles with a name of "Hank Guerra" who can't speak Spanish and drives a F-250.

Really? I think it should go in the as-yet-to-be-created "Food that Causes Iindigestion" thread.

Deal$ is great for $1 toys. They have some nice stuff in there. This particular consumer was pleasantly surprised. and it's a good place to buy wrapping paper.

Lights were on this morning...with shelves being stocked.
That'll be a hell hole of school kids in a matter of minutes.

Is it bad I don't get "my" inside joke? Fishtown friend and I grabbed brunch at Johnny Brenda's this weekend...saw it cleaned up and both of us got excited that something cool was going in until we remembered it was the knock-off Wawa.

amazing what 12 hours did: externally, i expect by this afternoon the main, front signage to be up. i walked by yesterday and it looked like it did for the past week. then >wham< it's a sev.

it'd have been nice to had this open last week. i had to make a Caf-Pow cup for my nephew for xmas (anyone who watches NCIS will know what that is). i had to go to 2 sevs in center city to get a double gulp cup (64oz).

i don't mind it's a sev. better than nothing. in the months that Deal$ has been open it still looks to be a clean store. what i'm not looking forward to with a convenience store is the trash. were it a wawa, dunkin or a fast food joint, the walk-away trash (both the literal and figurative) is unwelcomed. even if they clean the lot, they can't prevent mass transit and street trash. living near the dunkin, that refuse is everywhere

I remember the first time we took the train to Conshy when we were kids. I couldn't get over that they had a 7-11. I had only known them from my Aunts house in Jersey. I thought they were so lucky. They bought a Slurpee for us to try...memories.

I have a friend who does 7-11 renovations, mostly in northern NJ. It's amazing how quickly they knock them out once they actually get moving on them.

So the new free standing sign is up on the corner... Anyone else think it's awfully big?

I don't think it's much bigger than the KFC LJS sign that was there. Maybe it's been awhile since something has been there that's offensive?

You're probably right. I think the sudden appearance just makes it stand out more. And McDonald's still has it beat!

Between Deal$, Ozz, Trax, the Wonder Years bar, and the brand spankin' new 711, that is one good looking intersection.

I secretly miss the LJS. I used to go to the drive through incognito. Then eat in the car as I drove home on Howard St. hoping no one would see me. I really like those little fried nothings they put in the box with the fish. Their hush puppies ain't bad either.

Would that be so that the hordes of fans would stop clamoring for your autograph?
"I can't believe it...its the bedazzeled pajama pants guy...hey...right here at Front and Girard...alert the press...oh my..." as they chase your car? I'm sure havoc reigns wherever you go.

While that is sometimes a problem, I was really worried about being seen by the FNA crowd.

It's taken long enough to just be seen as the ugly step-child by those people. If they knew I was going to LJS ... no more invitations to go out for micro brews and forgras.

A heads up.
Just heard on the radio that 'MMR is having an event there Saturday, 2/4 from 11-2pm.
Use this information to either attend, or stay as far away as humanly possible.
