From a reader: "Someone is going around Fishtown telling people the are from the Star and if they donate money for Cione's sports teams their name will appear in your paper. I personal know two (targeted) women. I have also heard from a few more."

This is not a function of the Star Newspapers
No one from our paper will ever go door to door asking for money.
The Star is a free community paper a nd it will always be.
Don't be fooled.

I had this happen back in November and it was pretty much word for word identical. The guy kept insisting that I look "familiar" and asked to come in. Pretty unsettling.

I confronted this guy as he tried to get money from me at my home on a Sunday night about two months ago. I knew he was immediately lying, since no organization raises money this way. Had my kids not been in my living room, I would have kept him there until police arrived. I told him that I was calling the cops and that he should leave my house. He sprinted down the street as I followed him for four blocks.

Right on, AJ.

If you can, hold onto this guy until the authorities come.

Is this the same guy who has a loose leaf sheet of paper with signatures, typically laminated?

I hope he knocks on my door. I have a very hungry pit bull who's in the mood to make a donation.

Why is this called Another Door to Door Scammer? I don't think that's fair because alot of us go door to door and we're honest. Last year I went door to door to sell subscriptions to Grit. Nobody in Fishtown wanted any. They said it was for hicks. Plus they didn't believe me when I said it was a magazine. They said it was a newspaper. I told them it was not a newspaper, it was a magazine. They thought I was lying to them and trying to steal their money. But if they would have paid me they would have gotten their Grit magazine and seen it was a good magazine. So I say you have to know who it is going door to door before you say they are a scammer.

When is someone gonna sell door to door orgasms? It's always something I don't need, like the ghetto numbers (dude asks for $$$ to draw your house number on the pavement for no particular useful reason)

Grit is a good magazine. I only say that because I was in it once.
