I know she was trying to sell for years.

The ground floor, the actual store part, has been vacant since late January/early February. The people that took over the business, but did not buy it, last summer didn't do a good job managing their cash flow/inventory and ran the stock down without buying more. The moved out, and took all the store fixtures with them, virtually over night.
I think right now someone is just renting the building as a house, I live right near there and I haven't heard anything about it reopening as a business. It's too bad, the space is a good size and it was usually pretty busy with the school down the block. That said, running a bodega like Mr. Bills has got to be a tough job for little reward.

Word on the street is that it's turning into an art gallery, and pretty soon.

Yes it will gallery called 'Art Department'. The first round of artists lined up and they are planning on having their opening reception this Friday at 6pm.

The new owner mentioned she may be having classes there as well.
