Wait....what? I'm so confused.

I know this:
1) There has been a private company in Philly for quite a few years named "ReStore" which sells used (generally salvaged) items for building with.
2) Habitat for Humanity has a chain of stores also called "ReStore" where they sell items for building with. I think these items tend to be donated items - some used & some new - which are generally building supplies or furniture.
3) Habitat for Humanity has been expanding their "ReStore" concept greatly recently.

I guess Stock is saying that Habitat is stomping on the original Philly ReStore.

In full disclosure:
1) I don't know which existed first (although the private ReStore was here in Philly first).
2) I don't know anything about anything transpiring between the two organizations.
3) I've volunteered with a Habitat affiliate in the past.

Habitat is trampling on a local business that had the name waaaay before they did. Re-Store (original) sells salvage/reclaimed items in Port Richmond. The owner Linda runs a nice place and has great inventory. Habitat has more money and lawyers than Linda.

I use to volunteer with Habitat, but now with Rebuild Together Philadelphia.

So does Philly Re-Store have to change its name?

No, some technical legal thing I forget, but it's confusing to potential customers of hers. You can ask her about the details, but in the end, it's not good for her.

With all due respect to Re-store in PR which I love, Habitat has had that name since the '90s for their retail stores throughout the U.S. and Canada.

Why build new homes for the poor when It would be cheaper to just give them homes in the Fishtown area that are for sale. This way we can get some new folks in the neighborhood.

Here I sit broken hearted, paid a quarter and only farted.

The women that run ReStore are the worst. They are rude and could give a crap about you, the customer. I've gone in there at least 20 times since they opened and it's been a lousy experience each visit. I try to support local businesses, but they have lost me forever and I can't say I didn't try. I'm glad the dog (scout, I think) was friendly.
