I kind of feel bad for owners of crazy fish who tried to make a go of it only to be referred to as "notorious nuisance bar" in that review when anybody that's been here a while knows that the "notorious nuisance bar" was called FORKS.
I'll agree with you that FORKS was more deserving of the term notorious, but let's be honest that the Saturday "wet boxer nights" at the Crazy Fish weren't exactly the 180-degree turnaround the place needed.
Speaking of urban Pioneers, I noticed a sharp increase in car stereo thefts when all the minors who used to get served at the Crazy Fish no longer kept watch over the area. I'm skeptical that the Loco Pez hipsters will serve the same function but I'm hopeful.
was forks -> crazy fish just a name change or was it new owners, as well?
Pretty sure new owners. They overhauled the inside, restored the cornice, and initially had some kind of fuzzy connection to the Nodding Head brewery (not necessarily the owners -- maybe just someone who used to work there -- I remember it being kinda vague). At an FNA meeting, the new CF manager mentioned that he wanted to make it respectable again. But that didn't seem to last very long and it went back to being a disgrace.
When crazy fish was open it was like a scene from " The Wire" outside day in and day out . When it was forks it was an old man bar/after work spot . nowhere near what crazy fish was .
I'm happy they are getting noticed now, but I'm sad that it's hard to get a seat there now.
You have to sit across the street and wait for them to roll up the big metal doors...like I do.
Of course, you wait for one other person to go in first, and then run for it.

I heard they were talking about doing a brunch thing, but who knows.
I'm still feeling a little vinegary because I didn't know about the secret menu.
