Tire Patch

Forums:

I remember the old board had a few recommendations for where to get a tire patched. I need some place I can be in and out of since the holidays are so hectic.

Pep Boys - seriously. If you join some frequent service club (free) you get tires patched for free - FOREVER.

Kaz's - Somerset & Aramingo.

Their patch lasted 6+ months for me, but eventually I did succumb to a new tire.

Make sure where ever you go, they re-balance your tire after patching it. It's important and some people cut corners. If they do the patch properly (take the tire of the rim and patch the hole form the inside), then the tire needs to be re-balanced once it's put back on the rim. Doesn't take long but can really affect the handling of your car.

Kaz's. Absolutely.

Garrison's did it for me...was about 2-3 years ago though.

Always go to kaz. There's a place on Frankford near Berks but it looks shady. Oh wait, kaz kind of looks shady too....but they have a pony!

They did it for free for me once without being part of a frequent service club. I ran over a big screw on my way home from work and pulled into PepBoys to get it patched, they didn't even bother taking any info. They just pulled the car in, yoinked out the screw and repaired the tire in less than 15 minutes. When I asked how much, they said it's free.

So that's one thing they did a good job at. So that leaves oil changes and tire patches as the two services I'll let PepBoys do to my car.

Not sure about patching tires, but if you need a good, cheap used tire... there is a place right at lehigh and frankford under the tresle bridge, we got 4 really good tires for $100.00.

Another vote for KAZ, always. I've had them do two repairs, and never needed a re-repair.

KAZ!
plugged several, never noticed a handling issue or had the patch go bad.
and cheap.
Pep Boys seems to depend on which particular service manager is working.
Had a Puerto Rican dude there who was amazing, not only did he set me up with some tires, he also almost got into a good ol fashioned Fishtown brawl with some jerk that was driving like an idiot through the parking lot cutting over to 95.
but sometimes it is just "meh."

A flat tire is a deflated pneumatic tire, which can cause the rim of the wheel to ride on the tire tread or the ground potentially resulting in loss of control of the vehicle or irreparable damage to the tire. A tire that is leaking air can really put a damper in your day. While an extra tire can always be a short-term solution, repairing the tire with a patch or plug can help extend the life of your tire.
