to frankdatank you are probably right . i was just trying to make a point. the one thing that i do see is that by reading the other post about where will you be in 5 yrs. well it seems that a lot of the posters (and you know who you are) ain't even gonna be here who would have thought that was possible? peace and love and can't we all just get along?

FYI, this is NOT a liberal

FYI, this is NOT a liberal message board.

The liberals here may be more numerous or outspoken,
but that shouldn't stop conservatives from speaking out and doing it well.

Barry Goldwater, William F. Buckley, and Ronald Reagan - among others - would be very disappointed with a "just drop it" attitude.

(This is not meant to imply any of them would necessarily endorse the point being argued by biggeo on this thread.)

Biggeo......you cant win this argument on a liberal message board, its impossible. You are better off just dropping it. Let all the liberals live at D St and Ontario or 8th and Hunting Park for a month, then take a survey. I would bet that most would be happy to be back in Fishtown w/ all the racists

Not sure if you clarified anything, there. Are you saying that it's a minority's fault that all those neighborhoods are trashed?

I cant speak for biggeo but what I think he is getting at is that the people who live in a neighborhood are the people who can either build it up or tear it down. Regardless of color. Our neighborhood happens to have been predominantly white. We didn't chose to live here because of that fact - many of us were just born here and that's the way it was. Our neighborhood also didn't go down the way many surrounding areas did because many of those who were born here chose to stay and purchase their own homes and because of this we had a vested interest in fighting to keep it livable. Seeing how many neighborhoods such as those listed went down so much is upsetting. The racist attitude although it still exists is markedly less than it was years ago. Many fishtowners resent that they are painted as racist just because they don't feel the need to apologize for wanting to live with others who have a similar background. Just my interpretation of biggeo's post. If this is in fact what he is trying to say - I agree with him. Its sad to see many city neighborhoods decline to such an extent and I'm sure glad we aren't one of them. I don't feel the need to justify my choice to live and raise my children among people who share my ethnicity (In my case Irish Catholic). I'm not saying I get upset when people who are not irish catholic move in - I'm just saying I like that there are a lot of people who come from a similar experience around me - it makes me comfortable.

I stated exactly what was confusing. I was asking you to clarify what you're saying.

Got this in an email today,,
relates a little.. (maybe, I have been known to go off topic a bit)

Take Action today to fully reinstate PA's Hate Crimes Law

In July 23 2008 a part of PA's hate crimes law was struck down on a technicality. Pennsylvania Supreme Court upheld a Commonwealth Court decision striking down the amendments to the state's hate crimes law that added sexual orientation, gender identity, ancestry, gender, and mental and physical disability in 2002.

Pennsylvania considers certain crimes to be more serious when motivated by hatred toward the race, color, religion or national origin of another individual or group of individuals. When certain criminal offenses are committed (often these are called the underlying offenses) AND it can be shown that a motive for such crimes was hatred of the race, color, religion or national origin of the victim, the additional offense of ethnic intimidation can be charged, subjecting the perpetrator to more severe penalties. Any person who is injured or whose property is damaged by such actions can sue for damages, including damages for emotional distress, punitive damages and reasonable attorney fees and costs. See http://tinyurl. com/5o9o3l .

The action of the PA Supreme Court leaves Pennsylvanians in all of those categories vulnerable to hate crimes. Pennsylvanians of any age – in schools being bullied, in institutions, in their communities.

Keystone Progress is calling on our State Senators and State Representatives to once again pass this legislation- and to do it right this time.

Please join Keystone Progress in calling for the reinstatement the amendments to PA's hate crimes law. http://www.keystone progress. org/page/ s/0808pahatecrim e or http://tinyurl. com/6jaabu
