SOUPY ISLAND:
Here's a request for the old old timers of Fishtown. Granny has told me a few things about Soupy Island but not nearly enough. She explained that there was a "soup" kitchen over in Jersey and Fishtowners took a ferry over. I woul dlove moe info regarding Soupy Island......I even just love the name!!!

My Mom took her brothers to
My Mom took her brothers to Soupy Island all the time when they were kids, they took a Ferry and for them it was a place where you get a meal for free, she talks about it with great fondness..
My kids go there every year with their day camp, you drive now, but there is still free soup for lunch and pools to swim in and the playgroud,,
We took my grandmother to
We took my grandmother to Soupy Island for her 82nd? birthday party. She got all nostalgic and started telling stories about the ferry and the times she had when she was growing up. We took pictures. It's a real place in New Jersey... the ferry is long gone of course. There is a small playground nearby and a carousel is there now.

The name soupy island has me thinking of Neil Young's Sugar Mountain...we could port that song this Soupy Island for sure. The melody is spot on.
