It actually would have been possible in 1903, 1919, 1920, and 1921. The Series was a best-of-nine those seasons.

(and NO, I was NOT in the stands watching, wise guys)

Listening to the radio today - there are 3 players on the yankees that make a combined total of almost a half-billion dollars to play. a single player, alex rodriguez makes more per year to play than the entire line up of the pittsburgh pirates! the price the yankees are paying for their players they should be winning the world series every year

Ugggg. …I'm sort of getting over it enough to try and talk about this.

I'm totally crushed that they lost game 6 and the series. I was really convinced we had the momentum going in but pretty much everything went wrong for the Phils last night. Pedro certainly didn't pitch well and he seemed sort of uncomfortable at times. However, looking back it was really only Matsui that he had trouble with. Cowboy Joe's strike zone was miniscule (for both teams) in the first few innings and I think that hurt him; he practically forced Pedro to throw that 3-2 meatball that Matsui crushed over the right field fence. Pedro challenged and Matsui answered.

No clutch hitting again. Simple as that. With that small strike zone, Pettitte threw a few meatballs of his own that the Phils choked on. Ibanez should have crushed the one he shanked during his first AB. I'll give credit to Pettitte. He pitched good on short rest and my hat goes off to him. And, aside from Howards meaningless HR, the Yanks sub-par middle relief was good enough.

The Phils defense was off again too, they just could never get it together. Victorino misplaying that fly ball set the tone early. Francisco being unable to catch that difficult, but catchable, long fly. That A-Roid single that squeezed through Feliz and Rollins... Feliz did have that spectacular, bare hand, 5-3 ground out but by then the game was out of reach.

I believe the Phils were better than the outcome of this series. I really thought we'd be playing a game 7. BUT I am still proud of them. It was a really fun season and I had a blast watching the entire playoffs. Playing the Yankees in the WS made for some great theater.

I hate to sound cliché but we WILL get 'em next year. I can't wait!

because once one team has 4, the series is over.
