This morning I walked out my back door to put out the trash and was attacked by my neighbors pitt. It had broken through their rotten wooden fence and charged me as soon as I went outside. I suffered 7 really nasty puncture wounds to my hand and wrist and a couple of nasty bruises. Thankfully my dog was still inside or he would have been killed. This dog has attacked my dog in the past.
I called the cops and they came out, filled out a report, knocked on the neighbors door but didn't get an answer. They came back and told me to get in touch with the 26th to follow up on the report.
Here is the advice part. The owners of the dog are real dirtbags, drug dealers and are in and out of jail all the time. I'm reluctant to pursue having the dog put down for fear of retribution. The officer told me that when a pitt attacks, without provocation, and draws blood it is generally put down.
What do you folks think I should do?

Seriously, make sure you see
Seriously, make sure you see a doctor.
Dogs mouths have incredible amounts of bacteria, and could give you a serious problem if the wound is left unchecked.
Get there really fast if its turning red around the edges, and warm to the touch....you can get cellulitis quickly, and have a big problem.
Maybe just a shot of antibiotics would be helpful.

I agree with all the other.
I agree with all the other. The owners should be hold responsible. I know it's scary to hold them responsible because of the situation. However your safety and the safety of others around this dog have to be more important! See a doctor, keep calling 26th and hang in there!

Is this Dog still being left
Is this Dog still being left outside? Has the fence been repaired? Are these people at all aware that something happened? Just wondering.
I hope you are okay and I am glad it wasn't worse. I too find it absurd the police seem to be unsure how to handle this situation.

You should def go to the
You should def go to the doctor. And follow up again and again with the 26th. I love pits and all dogs but this should never have happened. The owners should be behind bars.
I am so sorry Stanford. Did
I am so sorry Stanford. Did you go to the doctor?

No clear procedure for dog
No clear procedure for dog attacks?? Absurd. I really feel for you: it's so frustrating being paralyzed because of aggressive, unstable neighbors. That said, getting rid of the pit seems like a foregone conclusion; it's only a matter of time before the dog does serious, permanent damage to you, a child, or your dog. Good luck.
Called the 26th for a follow
Called the 26th for a follow up. They tell me to call the SPCA so I make that call only to be told I need to call the 26th. Typical Philadelphia. Finally got in touch with the Community relations officer and am awaiting a call back. It seems they don't have a clear procedure for dog attacks.
When I was hit by a drunk
When I was hit by a drunk driver, the cops didn't even come out. I had to drive my messed up car to the precinct.
Of course, it was a drunk cop who hit me...
One other thing. It seems
One other thing. It seems like you have 2 choices:
1. live in fear of the dog (who you KNOW will attack you and your loved ones any chance it has)
2. live in fear of your neighbor (which is an unknown)
tough choice.
That has got to be scary. I
That has got to be scary. I agree with the others - blame it on the po-po. But get the dog OUT. Like you said, your lucky your dog was not out or god forbid a little kid walking to school. I know a little girl with bad scars on her face from some 's pitbull attacking her. Those scars will always be there.
